eSUB Construction Software

eSUB's product — Cloud 2.0 — is a project management tool tailored to the needs of subcontractors, who use eSUB Cloud to manage project tasks, collaborate on project documents, and keep track of real-time updates.

Overview

I was hired in 2022 as the product designer responsible for all mobile designs. Eventually I took lead on all design in September 2023 as the sole designer at eSUB. The experience was invaluable because I got to frequently work with engineers and product managers. The cross-functional aspect and startup environment helped me learn immensely! â€‹

  • Design reviews with engineers to discuss handoff details and ways to improve design

  • Bi-weekly user feedback meetings, and frequent discussions with product managers

  • Reviews with design lead for feedback on designs and best usability practices

The following case studies detail the various aspects of my work and collaboration with others — please reach out if you'd like to learn more about my process in detail!

Research

Drawings are a fundamental tool in the construction industry. Subcontractors rely on them to prepare accurate cost estimates, refer to detailed assembly instructions, and coordinate work with other subcontractors. This was the most requested feature by clients in our conversations with them in user research and sales feedback.

I took ownership of the mobile app designs, while my design lead focused on the web app. I worked with 2 product managers and the lead developer throughout this process. Please contact me if you'd like to speak about this in more detail!

Mobile Design System

Design Systems

eSUB Cloud 2.0 brought greater functionality to the mobile app, which was previously divided up into multiple smaller apps. Now consolidated and rebranded, the mobile app is a powerful tool for subcontractors in the field to use on the go.

However, there were many inconsistencies for the same component across different features in the app.

  • This would sometimes take away time from our product development discussions, even though we had previously established components in production.

  • eSUB needed a design system to avoid such redundancies, with a set of guidelines that could scale as a the company continues to enhance the product.

  • I wanted to use this as an opportunity to build the design system from the ground up, since the app was still in its initial stages and had limited functionality

I'd love to speak more about the considerations that went into this process and how I approached this project! Please email me or schedule some time right now to chat!

Integrations

Research

Web

Users need the ability to add external integrations to access real-time job cost data and streamline their accounting process. The biggest priority for eSUB in 2023 was the Quickbooks integration, setting up eSUB for future integrations to give users more options.

How might we design a space for users to manage their Quickbooks Integration and have the ability to add other accounting integrations?

The design lead started this project before leaving it to me — some of my work included:

  • Collaborating with product managers to fully map out the user journey

  • Working with engineers to understand how the integration works from the backend, and how it affects error states and other support screens needed

This project is still being shipped so I can't publicly disclose designs yet, but email me or schedule some time right now to chat! I'm more than happy to discuss my approach and the various challenges that came up during this process.
